Why People Can Love Your Work and Still Not Be Ready To Hire You
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how many business owners are working so hard on the things they feel are going to move their business forward… but still feeling like their business is unpredictable.
They’re having conversations, people are responding to posts, calling them back from a networking event, someone says they're interested, a customer asks questions in their store, a DM comes through....and for a minute, it feels like something is moving.
Another week slips by, and nothing changes.
Act now before another week fades.
I know that feeling well because I’ve experienced it myself over the years. Especially as business changed from mostly in-person relationships and referrals to online conversations happening all day long.
What I’ve learned is this:
Businesses are not struggling because people aren’t interested.
Businesses lose out because there’s no clear next step after interest. For example, invite them to book a call, try a sample, schedule a demo, or sign up for your newsletter, and give them one simple action they can take right now. There's still time to fix this!
And honestly? Most of the time, we don’t even notice it’s happening.
We think:
“They’ll reach back out.”
“I’ll follow up later.”
“If they really wanted it, they’d say yes.”
Meanwhile, the conversation just sits there unfinished. You have another chance to fix this now!
Why People Can Love Your Work and Still Not Be Ready to Hire You
The Part Most Business Owners Miss
Many believe they need more visibility, followers, offers, or products.
But sometimes the real issue is much smaller than that. Someone shows interest… but they don’t know what to do next.
That’s the gap.
And I see this happen in both local and online businesses all the time. You have a great conversation, answer questions, and you help them. Then nothing.
If you don’t guide the conversation, opportunity slips away fast. Without a next step, momentum dies quickly. They just stopped moving. Small actions matter. A simple follow-up, invite, start simply, offer one clear step.
People don’t need ten options. They need a way to begin.

Where To Start This Week
Think about the last few people who showed interest in your business.
Ask yourself honestly: Did they actually have a clear next step?
Restart one conversation this week by following up and offering a clear next step. Not with pressure .Give a definite step or invitation so they know how to move forward.
