I still remember sitting in my car before a networking meeting, taking deep breaths, trying to calm my racing thoughts. What if I said the wrong thing? What if no one wanted to talk to me? I was second-guessing everything, even though I knew I needed to be there.
I’ve never been the type to turn away from growth. If something scared me, that meant it was exactly what I needed to do. I knew that if I let my fear hold me back, I’d regret it later. So, I walked in, started conversations, and step by step, I moved past the fear.
Now, I see the same hesitation happen online. People shy away from engaging with potential clients, overthinking every comment, waiting for the perfect moment to “show up.” But just like in-person networking, the magic happens when you stop overthinking and start connecting.
👉 That’s where mindset comes in. Let me show you how to make this opportunity count.
Let’s paint a picture:
You’re at a networking event. Someone walks up to you and says, “Hey, I heard you help [your expertise]. That’s something I’ve been struggling with!”
Would you:
❌ Awkwardly nod and walk away?
❌ Wait for them to ask 10 more questions before saying a word?
✅ Start a conversation, ask about their challenges, and share how you can help?
Of course, you’d engage in the conversation—that’s what networking is all about!
Now, let’s be honest… Are you doing this online?
Social media is just networking in a different space. If you’re not commenting, starting conversations, and engaging with potential clients, you’re walking away from the opportunity to make a sale.
The Mindset Behind Networking
We’ve all been there—that moment when you’re about to engage and suddenly feel stuck. Your mind draws a blank, you question what to say, and you hesitate.
It’s normal to feel nervous or overthink things. Networking (whether in-person or online) can trigger fears like:
❓ What if I say something wrong?
❓ What if they don’t like my comment?
❓ What if I seem too salesy?
Those fears are all in your head. The people you’re connecting with are likely going through similar struggles and value authenticity over perfection. You’re making a real connection when you show up from a place of service and curiosity. And THAT’s what matters most.
💡 Shift Your Focus: Instead of worrying about how you’ll be perceived, focus on serving.
What value can you provide? What questions can you ask to help them think through their challenges? The more you practice, the more you’ll break free from that self-doubt.
How to Network Like a Pro (Online & In-Person!)
🔥 Comment with intention – Engagement isn’t just about getting likes on your posts. The best way to be seen is by first showing up on your ideal clients’ posts.
✔️ If they’re celebrating a win: “Love this! What worked best for you?”
✔️ If they’re sharing a struggle: “I see this all the time—what’s been your biggest roadblock?”
✔️ If they’re launching something: “Exciting! What inspired you to create this?”
🔥 Ask better questions that spark a mindset shift – Instead of just giving answers, guide them toward their own breakthroughs.
✔️ Example Post: “I feel like I’m doing all the things in my business, but I’m still not seeing results.”
❌ Don’t just say: “You need a better strategy.”
✅ Ask instead: “What’s one task you spend the most time on daily? Is it directly leading to revenue or growth?”
✔️ Example Post: “I know I should be showing up more, but I struggle with confidence.”
❌ Don’t just say: “Just start small and be consistent!”
✅ Ask instead: “What’s holding you back from showing up? Fear of judgment, not knowing what to say, or something else?”
