Have you ever thought, “Why did I keep pushing through that?”
I have. More times than I care to admit.
Recently, I asked two honest questions inside some business groups I’m part of. Spaces filled with incredible women running service-based businesses. These are not beginners. They’ve been doing the work for years. The answers they shared revealed something I’ve seen quietly happening behind the scenes for a while: What used to work… doesn’t anymore.
And what I’m hearing over and over again is this: they’re done pushing through disorganized marketing, draining clients, and the pressure to “figure it out” alone. That doesn’t mean they’ve given up. It means they’re growing up into new leadership, new capacity, and a new way of doing business that doesn’t require burnout to succeed.
Today, I want to bring these conversations to you because maybe you’re in the same place, and no one has said out loud that it’s okay to feel this way. Acknowledging the struggle is a relief, isn’t it? It may not seem like it right now…give it a few. Let’s dig in.
I Asked Two Questions:
- What part of growing your business feels harder now than 10 years ago, and what are you no longer willing to push through just to “make it work”?
- What’s one thing you know you should be doing to get clients… but you’re not?
When I posed these questions, the responses weren’t surface-level. They were vulnerable, layered, and very familiar.
✔️ “I know I need to be talking to more people, and I’m working on it… but consistency is hard.”
✔️ “I used to push through burnout to grow. Now I want alignment, not exhaustion.”
✔️ “I do amazing work behind the scenes, but I don’t share the client wins as I should.”
✔️ “I’ve proven that I help people, but fear still creeps in.”
✔️ “I’m still searching for my right clients, and I’m not sure how to talk to them yet.”
✔️ “Holding back because of fear, even after getting great results.”
✔️ “Wanting to be visible but not feeling ready to sell.”
These aren’t beginner problems. These next-level challenges show up when you’ve been in business for a while but are growing into a new version of it. It’s normal, and it’s okay!
Here’s what I want to offer you:
If you’re not doing the things you know would grow your business, it’s not always about laziness or lack of discipline. Often, it’s about misalignment.
Sometimes, we’re stuck because:
- We’ve outgrown old strategies
- We’ve evolved, but our message hasn’t
- We’re still carrying habits that made sense 5 years ago but don’t fit anymore
- We’ve lost the spark, and the “shoulds” are louder than the vision
Everyone of these answers points to this truth:
Growth doesn’t come from pushing harder. It comes from pausing long enough to notice what’s holding you back and creating a plan that actually fits.
If you’ve been feeling stuck, I want to offer you a gentle reframe:
👉 The things you aren’t doing might be clues. Not to call you out or shame you but to help you build a business that actually fits the season you’re in now.
Ask yourself:
- What’s no longer working, and what am I ready to release?
- Where have I been making things more complicated than they need to be?
- What would be possible if I trusted that consistency doesn’t have to look like exhaustion and you can grow differently?
You don’t have to force your way to results. You can build momentum by making space for the right work, people, and strategy for this season.
